BBYRA Instructor Prep Day

In collaboration with BBYRA
Half-day training session for BBYRA instructors focused on sharing knowledge, building confidence, and strengthening our commitment to safe, high-quality sailing instruction this summer. The training will feature small-group sessions on rigging fundamentals, sailor engagement, and on-water safety, followed by time to connect and socialize with fellow BBYRA instructors.
Junior Coordinators from BBYRA clubs are invited to join the safety and socializing sessions from 4:00-6:00.
Toms River Yacht Club
Three top coaches will be leading the sessions:
Jeff Bonanni, a five-time National and North American Champion, was recently named US Sailing 2026 Developmental Coach of the Year in recognition of his leadership at 73 Sailing.
Clay Johnson, whose on-water accomplishments include winning the Optimist Team Trials, placing second at the US Olympic Trials in the ILCA class, and earning honors as a three-time Collegiate All-American Skipper, owns the sailing pro shop Colie Sails in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
Jamie Wasco Wright, former head instructor at Metedeconk River Yacht Club, serves as President of the Sailing Foundation of Barnegat Bay and is an educator at Perth Amboy Magnet School.
